At the Florida State Square and Round Dance Convention (May, 2008), The Florida Federation of Square Dancers awarded their highest honor, the Extra Mile Award, to Lon and Peggy Ligon. The purpose of the award is to show appreciation to caller's who go beyond the norm in giving freely of their time and talents to the square dance activity. The nominations are open to any member of the Florida Callers Association (that's a lot of caller's). Any dancer may submit the name of a caller to the selection committe. A brief autobiographical sketch and list at least three events at which the caller has demonstrated his or her contibution to the square dance community. A committee looks at all nominations and makes its choice. The award presented includes a framed document and an "Extra Mile Award Recipient" bar or dangle and is announced at the State Convention.  Jerry Robey Lon Ligon Peggy Ligon Donna Robey Lon and Peggy Ligon with Jerry and Donna Robey, the Grand Squares club representatives. They nominated the Ligons. This year (2008) Lon and Peggy earned the Extra Mile award after years of hard work and dedication. They deserved it. They are the best! |
